Jon Madof

Modum @ The Stone NYC November 18 & 20, 2021

Modum (MAH-dum) is a new project from guitarist, composer and producer Jon Madof. The music is a radical departure from Madof’s other bands Zion80 and Rashanim, both of which draw mainly on jazz and various Jewish and world music forms. Modum leaves those worlds far behind, with influences from electronic music to post-rock to minimalism. But Madof still manages to keep his guitar playing at the center, a sound that seamlessly ranges from soaring lyricism to searing distortion, often in the span of a single song. Over his decades-long career, Madof has performed around the world at prestigious venues and festivals, been featured in media outlets including the New York Times and NPR, and maintained a long-running association with composer John Zorn. Since 2017, Madof has also been the co-owner of the prolific and eclectic Chant Records label.
